Our global and local communities have been through a life-changing period, and we are all hoping to return to some sense of normalcy soon. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your health and safety.

Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice, as you have experienced during all your previous visits to our office. This commitment to ensuring a safe, yet comfortable environment has been paramount to top quality orthodontic care. In light of current events, we want to tell you about the infection control procedures we currently and will continue to follow in our practice to keep patients and staff safe.

Our office has always utilized personal protective equipment (PPE) that has exceeded all the RCDSO guidelines, however, in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic we have instituted additional guidelines and protocols to ensure your safety. We follow the activities of these agencies so that we are current to any new rulings or guidance that may be issued. We do this to make sure that our infection control procedures adhere to the regulations outlined, as dynamics change quickly.

You will see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. Below is a list of some of the enhanced precautions we have taken to protect you in addition to extensive team training on infection control and patient management procedures:

What We Are Doing to Keep You and Our Team Safe

1. Prior to your appointment, you will be asked a set of health-related questions via email and when you present to our office. It is required that you complete this questionnaire prior to your appointment. We will have to reschedule your appointment if we are unable to complete this step.
2. Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean that you’re offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.
3. Personalized arrival procedures to guide you from your car directly to treatment rooms to eliminate contacting surfaces.
4. We will be restricting the number of people coming to an appointment with the patient, limiting it to one (1) parent only.
5. Maintain distancing in the reception area for essential caregivers and parents of minors if they cannot wait in a vehicle or outside the clinic.
6. Removed magazines and items that can harbour or transfer germs of any kind. Hand sanitizers will be positioned throughout the clinic.
7. Providing more education materials to enhance your awareness of health issues related to this pandemic.
8. We require a mask to be worn by ALL patients upon entering the office.
9. Installed sneeze guards or droplet barriers at all reception areas.
10. Require hand washing and hand sanitizing before all appointments by our team and by our patients.
11. Introduce an oral pre-rinse by all patients to reduce exposure to germs.
12. Record temperature of every patient upon entering the office.
13. Record the temperature and lung efficiency of every team member each day at beginning and end of work period.
14. Scheduling appointment over the phone and allow contactless exit from the appointment.
15. Enhanced operatory disinfection procedures of all surfaces between patients.
16. New personal protection equipment like visors, gowns, and masks for our doctors and team to provide barriers against the smallest of germs.
17. Introduce protocols to reduce or eliminate airborne aerosols during all dental procedures.
18. Enhanced nightly disinfection procedures of equipment and office fixtures like computers, keyboards, telephones, tablets, chairs, doorknobs, and buttons that may be touched unconsciously.
19. Disinfection of all outside mail and packages that enter the building.
20. Longer appointment times for you to prepare and complete all appointment tasks and duties in the safest and most comprehensive manner.
21. Providing teledentistry services for follow up or communication that can be done online or through video education.
22. Provide disease testing recommendations for exposure detection to viruses.

We are very much looking forward to resuming orthodontic care in the safest possible way for both patients and staff. During this time, we would like to minimize the number of patients visiting and minimize your time spent in our office to encourage physical distancing.

If possible, please only have the patient come into the office once the wellness questionnaire is filled. We will check your temperature and take some photos and x-rays. Once records are taken, you can leave the office.
